Brain Power Starts with Belief

Good morning (afternoon, evening, night… uh whatever time you happen to be reading this)! This is your daily dose of Selfpause. Today we are going to talk about BRAIN POWER!!!! Sorry, we didn’t mean to scream that last bit, but we are very EXCITED!

Curious about where your reading will take you today? Here is the gist of it:

  • A fancy study group that had access to an MRI machine, unlike us, found that correlation between self-concept and academic achievement

  • In other words, using positive affirmations can help increase BRAIN POWER

  • A Stanley County school has created a mission and vision statement as part of its 5-year success plan (sounds like affirmations to us)

One’s Beliefs About Their Academic Ability Play a HUGE Role in Their Success

Hey there, let's take a quick look at this study that connects kids' brain structure, academic confidence, and future success:

🧠 Brain Power & Confidence: A Winning Combo for Kids 🏆📚

👧👦 Researchers checked out 92 school-aged kids, their brains, and their feelings about their academic abilities

🧪 Using MRI imaging, they looked at the gray matter volume (GMV) in certain brain areas and how it related to academic self-concept

🤓 Turns out, the more confident the kids were, the better they did in school

🧠 Interestingly, having more gray matter in the right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and dorsomedial prefrontal cortex (DMPFC) was linked to lower academic self-concept

🔮 The exciting part: the right DLPFC volume could predict academic success a year later

So, the mix of brain power and academic confidence could be the secret ingredient for kids' future achievements. Keep that self-esteem up, and who knows what they'll accomplish! 🚀🎓

Mission & Vision Statements for the WIN

The Stanley School District is putting together a plan that will help lead them through the end of the 2028 school year. Part of that plan involves a mission and vision statement, which lets be honest, are fancy affirmations.

Tidbits from the article :

  • The plan is composed of 5 categories, academic achievement, resources, human capital, school safety, & student support

  • The strategic plan will also include a mission statement, vision statement, and a belief statement to help them focus their energy on the overall plan

  • These statements are all about empowering their students, collaboration, and engagement

HERE are 7 lucky affirmations…

  1. I am capable of achieving academic success.

  2. I am intelligent, hardworking, and dedicated to my studies.

  3. I believe in myself and my ability to learn and master new concepts.

  4. I am confident in my ability to perform well on exams and assignments.

  5. I am not afraid to ask questions or seek help when I need it.

  6. I am focused and disciplined in my approach to studying.

  7. I am proud of my academic achievements and I recognize my own progress and growth.
