Being a new mom can be tough, especially when those postpartum blues hit. But don't worry, ladies, science has got your back! A randomized controlled trial in Thailand tested out a program called Self-EAR (Self-Empowerment-Affirmation-Relaxation) to see if it could help improve those bluesy feelings. Here's what went down:

👶🏼 76 new moms were recruited, all experiencing postpartum blues (PPB) with scores of 3 or higher on Stein's scale (ouch!)

🎧 The intervention group was given an MP3 player with audio files of the Self-EAR program to listen to three times a day for four weeks (sounds like a spa day to us!)

🧪 After three months, the results showed that the Self-EAR program had a positive effect on postpartum blues scores and serum allopregnanolone concentration (say that five times fast!)

💃🏼 The intervention group had significantly lower postpartum blues scores and higher serum allopregnanolone levels than the control group (cue the happy dance!)

NEW MOTHERS AND BREASTFEEDING THE FORGOTTEN TRIAL

Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Minnesota is expanding its breastfeeding support program to help new mothers. Registered nurses Kellie Jorgenson and Nicole Meyer and certified lactation counselors Amber Kraft and Amy Newman offer lactation support services to mothers. The program includes designed classes that will guide expectant mothers through the steps of breastfeeding.

Here’s what they said :
